DISABILITY


Life’s twists and turns can be unexpected, but disability insurance has your back! It’s like a financial safety net that keeps you covered if an injury or illness knocks you off your feet.

Short-Term Disability (STD)

A disability can happen to anyone. If you are unable to work for a short time due to a non-work related accident, illness, or even pregnancy, it can lead to months without a paycheck. Short-Term Disability Insurance protects you by continuing to pay a portion of your weekly salary during this disability period. Hiram College makes this coverage available to you to purchase, at a cost share with the college and via payroll deductions.

Long-Term Disability (LTD) – Core

Hiram College provides Long-Term Disability coverage through Guardian at no cost to you that provides a benefit after employees have been disabled and unable to work for 180 days.

Long-Term Disability (LTD) – Buy Up

Hiram College also provides you with the opportunity to purchase additional Long-Term Disability coverage, or “Buy-Up” from the core plan. This can increase your benefit amount to 60% of your monthly earnings, subject to the maximum monthly benefit of $6,000.
